Monastery Today
The Monastery got its name “Monastery of Virgin Mary of Myrtidiotissa”, from the Virgin Mary that was found by father Daniel, after a vision he saw in a cave between myrtles. The Monastery has withheld everything from pirate raids, robberies, natural destructions and the deterioration of time.

At present another young monk named Father Daniel is serving as the monastery's patron. His goal, and daily struggle, is to steadily rebuild the facility and restore the grounds to their original beauty.
He began a concerted effort to repair the monastery in the summer of 2006. His efforts have yielded admirable improvement in the structural integrity of the buildings as well as the grounds themselves. With limited financial resources, the help of God, and the support of the people in Corfu, he intends to continue and complete his work.
Apart from the repairs and the improvements that he has achieved, Father Daniel also strives to enrich the flora and fauna of the region. He continually works the land and raises animals that have been abandoned in the area such as hares, rabbits, and goats. Once he has nurtured them into a stable condition he releases them into the surrounding forest of the Monastery and the mountains of Agios-Georgios.
Another of Daniel's future dreams is to restore and repair the traditional
oil factory located in the Monastery (the mechanisms
and presses are dated from 1896), so that it will again be functional.
This will give the Monastery the ability to produce its own oil the traditional
way, the way it existed for hundreds, if
not thousands of years in the island.
